In the fast-paced flow of modern life, it is incredibly easy for our bodies to get trapped in a state of high alert. Between constant digital notifications, demanding schedules, and the unexpected twists of daily life, many of us spend our days managing and bracing for what we call triggers. A trigger is a sudden spark that throws our nervous system into a defense mechanism like fight, flight, or freeze. When you are triggered, your body is doing exactly what it was designed to do, which is to protect you from a perceived danger. Your shoulders tighten, your jaw clenches, and your breath becomes shallow. While this biological alert system is essential for survival, remaining stuck on this high-alert frequency is exhausting and leaves very little room for true rest.
But what if we could actively retrain our internal receiver to track a completely different biological signal? This is where the profound concept of a glimmer comes in. Coined by licensed clinical social worker Deb Dana, glimmers are the exact biological opposite of triggers. A glimmer is a micro-moment of safety, calm, and connection that tells your nervous system that you are secure in the present moment. Glimmers are not massive, rare events that you have to travel far to find. Instead, they are tiny, ordinary sensory experiences already broadcasting all around you. It is the solid, comforting warmth of a hot mug of tea resting in your palms, the familiar, steady rhythm of a wall clock, or the rich scent of rain hitting warm pavement. When you pause to notice a glimmer, your biology instantly shifts out of survival mode and enters a state of regulated peace.
Announcing a New 5-Week Virtual Workshop Series
To help you move from a constant focus on triggers to an active appreciation of the safety that already exists, Creative Guidance LLC is officially launching a brand-new, transformative 5-week virtual workshop series titled Glimmers: A 5-Week Journey to Regulation and Joy. This series is explicitly designed for anyone who feels overwhelmed by modern life, has experienced trauma, or simply wants to learn how to actively seek out and embrace positive, grounding moments. Together, we will explore the mind-body connection, map our physical holding patterns, and build a personalized menu of sensory allies to reshape our systems toward lasting regulation.
Here is a glimpse into our upcoming weekly journey:
Week 1: August 5, 2026 | Triggers versus Glimmers: Understanding Your Body
We will start by learning the difference between triggers that cause our systems to tighten and the ordinary glimmers that make us feel safe. You will discover how finding these tiny moments of comfort can actually help calm your mind and relax your physical form.
Week 2: August 12, 2026 | Mapping Your Unique Joy Landscape
This week, we will explore what specific sights, sounds, smells, and textures bring you a deep sense of peace. By mapping out these personal glimmers, you will learn how to easily guide yourself back to a state of comfort when life gets difficult.
Week 3: August 19, 2026 | The Everyday Joy Practice
We will introduce a simple, daily practice to help you notice and celebrate the good things already happening around you. You will learn how to build on these tiny sparks of light, turning quick glimmers into a deep, glowing sense of everyday happiness.
Week 4: August 26, 2026 | Feeling Gratitude in Your Body
We are moving gratitude from a simple mental checklist into a warm, physical experience. Using easy breathing exercises and somatic counter-moves, you will teach your body to trust that good things are happening and that you are secure.
Week 5: September 2, 2026 | Embracing Joy and Moving Forward
In our final gathering, we will build your personalized Glimmer Menu to use whenever you need a quick emotional boost. You will leave with a clear, easy action plan to keep finding joy and allowing yourself to feel good, no matter what season of life you are in.
